Shape magazine just published an article about how to reinvigorate yourself during the holidays. I actually use most of these tips on a daily basis to keep my energy up since I am up so early in the morning and go to bed late (I know, I need to work on getting more sleep!). I especially like the link that has been found between movement and more positive mental/cognitive function. In the article, the author suggests taking a break to do some stretches or quick exercise (5 minutes or so) between wrapping gifts, but I actually do this even when I am working on the computer. I have definitely noticed that if I work in 15-20 minute intervals and then work in about five minutes or so of movement, I not only get done quicker, but the quality of my work is much better! Oh, and my body doesn’t hurt from being stuck in the same position for hours!
Another tip that they give in the article is using peppermint oil on the wrist to re-energized. This definitely works, as does peppermint oil on the temples if you are suffering from a headache (I used to suffer from headaches, and this helped a lot.) Peppermint is a nice oil and tea to have on hand because it can also be used as a way to calm the stomach after a particularly decadent or heavy holiday meal. Or, for me, using peppermint tea as a daily means to aid in digestion has been a great help.
