One Megacoolmama…

…with fun and healthy ideas for kids!

Have you heard of ChicagoShopping.com? 12/19

So, in my Sunday paper this week, I saw an insert advertising this new website, Chicagoshopping.com, and I decided to give it a try!  Chicagoshopping.com is a site that gives you rewards points for going through them to get to online and local retailers.  It is very similar to a ShopatHome or Ebates website, except this site offers Rewards Points instead of cash.  However, the amount of points is VERY easily accumulated (for instance, on my purchase through Kmart.com today I earned 5x the amount of points…100 points = $1 of Rewards!).  Also, this site will personalize deals for you and let you know of local places that offer what you want at a good price!  I have just started using it, but wanted to share it with all of my Illinois Megacoolmamas!  (I’m not quite sure if somebody in another state could sign up, but you could give it a shot!).

Oh, and they also offer exclusive coupons, like $5 of the $45 purchase one that was offered at the Kmart.com website.  It is worth checking out!

My favorite Black Friday deals! 11/23

Well, ready or not, Black Friday is almost here!  Whether or not you are a Black Friday shopper (I, personally, choose to forgo most of the craziness until Cyber Monday), some of the deals I have found posted online that will be happening on Black Friday are too good to resist!  Below is a list of some sites that I have found to be very helpful in rounding up these deals.  Happy shopping!  And, be sure to let me know if you scored a great deal this Black Friday!

1.  Hip2Save- This site has done a great job of rounding up deals at stores such as Macy’s, JCPenney, ToysRus, Old Navy, Best Buy, Kohl’s, etc.  It also gives tips on how to get the most out of your Black Friday shopping trip!

2.  TotallyTarget-  This site offers a list of all of the best Black Friday deals going on specifically at Target stores.  It does an excellent job of pairing coupons with the best-priced deals you will find on everything on your list in Target on Black Friday!

3.  TheKrazyCouponLady-  This site will show you where to go to get the best deals on holiday gift card promos during the season.  It details which stores give free gift cards or bonuses with purchase.  One of my favorites is from Victoria’s Secret- get a Free Secret Reward Card (worth $10, $50, $100, or $500) with $10 purchase through 11/30/11. Check out the site for more deals

4.  Mashable-  This article details the 9 best Walmart Black Friday deals, mostly electronics.

5.  WildforWags-  This site is dedicated to finding the best deals at Walgreens stores.  Click the link to be directed to a Gift-giving guide for the holidays for everyone on your list!  Lots of good deals and money-saving gift ideas are in the guide!

6.  The Thrifty Couple-  This site has a list of everything from coupon deals to recipe ideas to Christmas gift ideas, all on a budget!  I love this site and just enjoy perusing it for ideas and inspiration from time to time!

7.  All You-  The site to the popular magazine All You which has an article listing the best Black Friday deals in stores such as Staples, Walmart, Kohl’s, Michaels, Walgreens and more!

These are just some of my favorite sites, which I know are pretty reputable.  Look for another post soon about Cyber Monday!  :)

Awesome FREE tool for couponing and finding local sales! 10/19

So, as I was browsing the website for one of my favorite magazines, All You, I came across a tool that they offer that is really a godsend for all of you deal-hunting Megacoolmamas like myself!  Each week, I scrounge the circulars that come in the mail for the best sales on groceries in my area.  I also was PAYING to subscribe to the wehsite The Grocery Game, which was a site that would basically electronically gather all of my area circulars and tell me where the best sales were that week on items I needed.  However, All You magazine offers a very similar tool on their website, and for FREE!!!  Yippee!  Check out this link to get started!

All you do is enter your zipcode, and the circulars for your local stores will pop up.  You can browse by circular or you can specify in a grocery list which items you want to look for and in which stores.  Then, the site does all of the work by putting together a spread for you according to your preferences!  You can click to print coupons or print the list out!  Voila!  It’s that simple!

Also, while you’re there, be sure to check out the other pages All You magazine’s website has to offer.  And, why not subscribe to the magazine itself?  This month’s magazine came with almost $100 worth of coupons!  Woohoo!

Happy grocery shopping!

Megacool Kid-friendly Breakfast Recipe & Awesome Website for Healthy Living Resources! 9/1

Kid-friendly Bran Muffin recipe (taken from Revfoods website, originally from Cyberparent.com)

This recipe looks like it would be fairly simple to make and healthy to boot!  I took it from this great website I discovered today, which I will describe in my next post!  You will find the recipe below, with my links to coupons as well!  Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 3 tsp. baking soda COUPON
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 tbsp. all natural applesauce COUPON (print it out from the Meijer Mealbox to use on Mott’s applesauce at Meijer)
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup sugar COUPON in August 28 RedPlum newspaper insert for $.50 off Domino sugar product AND Domino sugar on sale at Walgreen’s right now for $2.49 until this Saturday (Sept. 3) with their in-ad coupon!
  • 4 tbsp. canola oil
  • 4 egg whites COUPON for either $.35 or $.50 off Eggland’s Best Organic Cage-free eggs in July 31 RedPlum newspaper insert AND Eggland’s Best are on sale right now at Jewel 2/$5
  • 2 tbsp. lemon juice
  • 2 cups non-fat milk COUPON (for $1 off 2 Horizon Dairy organic half-gallons of milk) AND COUPON (for $1 of 2 Horizon Dairy organic half-gallons of milk at Meijer!)
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 3 cups bran cereal (Cascadian Farms organic cereal on sale at Jewel this week for $2.50 a box!)
  • 1/2 cup raisins COUPON (this can be used on the Sunsweet Dates as well!  You may be able to print it out twice!)
  • 1/2 cup chopped dates

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.
  2. Add baking soda to boiling water and stir; set aside to cool.
  3. Line a 4, 6, or 12-cup muffin pan with foil muffin cups. Although you can use paper liners, oil, or cooking spray; foil liners produce more moist muffins. Set aside.
  4. In a large mixing bowl, combine oil, applesauce and sugars. Blend very well.
  5. Add egg, mix again.
  6. Add baking soda mixture, lemon juice, milk, flour, salt, cereal(s), raisins, and dates. Mix until dry ingredients are blended; do not over mix. Allow to stand about five minutes: until dry ingredients absorb some liquid.
  7. Spoon batter into muffin cups and bake 25 minutes.
  8. Serve warm. Store remaining batter in covered container, refrigerated for up to six weeks.

Makes 24 very filling, nutritious muffins.

Let me know if you tried this recipe and if the kiddos liked it!  I plan on making it soon!

FREE Kid’s Activity Kit AND Coupons from Organic Valley! 8/27

Organic Valley is a company that is dedicated to providing healthy, organic food to their customers.  Organic Valley products can be found in most Dominick’s, Woodman’s and Butera grocery stores.  You can go their website and print out coupons for their products and you can also subscribe to their newsletters  while you are there.  You will periodically receive coupon offers AND you have the option of having them send you a FREE Farm Friends Kids’ Activity kit, too!  The kit contains a magazine, activity booklety, a Go Organic! bumper sticker, and a booklet of Organic Valley coupons!  Visit their site to start saving!

If you are asking yourself why you should go organic, take a look at the chart below to compare what is allowed when producing organic foods with what is allowed when producing what are called “natural foods”.  If this kind of stuff is permitted when producing “natural” foods, can you imagine what foods with artificial ingredients are made of?  Hmmmm….
